Creating a security group

Reporting Services allows you to create security groups containing users and permissions that you apply to multiple reports. Any modifications made to the security groups are automatically applied to all of the reports that use the security group.

Note: Security groups created in Reporting Services are only available for use within Reporting Services.
  1. Open the Tools dashboard and select Report Administration. The Reporting Services Administration screen is displayed.
  2. Select Report Management > New Report Security Group. The New Report Security Group screen is displayed.
  3. Specify a name for the security group. Optionally, specify a description for the new security group.
  4. Click Save.
  5. To save and exit without adding permissions and users, click Save and Exit.
  6. To add permissions, click Permissions and select the permissions you want to assign to the security group.
  7. To add users, click Report Users.
  8. Specify this information:
    Copy From
    Use to copy users, roles, and user groups and default permissions from a published report. The Reports search screen is displayed. Locate the source report. Any changes that you make within the security group are saved to the security group, only.
    Note: Users and report roles copied from a published report, override any same-name users and roles in the security group.
    Permissions
    Use to override default permissions for users in the security group. The user's permissions screen appears which lists the user's permissions as inherited or not inherited from the group permissions.

    Specify each permission's inheritance as on or off, as necessary. Click Save. Reporting Services saves the permissions information to this security group only.

    Note: You can also apply override permissions to an individual user by clicking the Override link next to the user name.
    Restore Default
    Use to restore the default permissions for the user or users that you select from the security group's user list.
    Delete
    Use to delete the user or users that you select from the security group.
    Add User

    Use to add users, roles, and groups to the security group.
