S3 feature updates

Support for Arabic languages (S3 Applications only)

Description
The Lawson Smart Office client framework now includes Arabic language and locale support, and supports Lawson S3 10 applications running in Arabic.
Note: M3 Applications do not support Arabic language.

After the installation is complete, Lawson Smart Office users can change their language. The option to choose Arabic is now available in Settings > Lawson Smart Office > General. When Arabic is selected, the Calendar widget now has these options: Gregorian, Hijiri, or Um al Qura.

Impact

When Lawson Smart Office is installed, the installation program checks the Formats settings on the Region and Language Options dialog in Windows to determine what language the user's PC is using. The installation will use those settings as the default language and formats for Lawson Smart Office.

Users can also set the locale setting for the S3 Applications to Arabic Settings > S3 Transactions.

General enhancements to application forms

Description
These enhancements have been made to S3 application forms and to other types of forms, lists and windows. Differences between standard and list-driven forms are also discussed:
  • Improved load and close times
  • New options added to forms (also jobs and reports lists and Drill Select and Drill Around windows):
    • Option to mail an image of the current window
    • Print screen menu item and toolbar button
  • Significant accessibility improvements to ensure that readers with visual limitations can detect objects in focus (text boxes, combo boxes, and list items).
  • Links containing detail field references are now defined only for row zero and at execution time the data is taken from the active row. For standard forms only.
  • Spell-check option has been added to attachment comments. For standard forms only.
  • Date filter values are specified in either of these formats: For list-driven forms only.
    • MM/DD/YYYY
    • YYYYMMDD
  • System administrators can specify, through the user role, forms or lists for which list-driven processing should be bypassed. If a user has made a selection that differs from the role selection, the role takes precedence. For list-driven forms only.
Impact

End-users will see and can select these options from the appropriate forms and windows.

Jobs and reports changes

Description
Job Scheduler has these new features:
  • Data views (active, waiting, completed) now have Job OwnerThe new Auto Monitor feature, when enabled, checks for job change status every 15 seconds. Administrators can give this option to users through a role that gives access to AllowJobPolling.
  • A report ‘Extract to CSV’ action will always be available in Print Manager and Report Viewer. Previously, it was only available in Report Viewer only if Export to Excel was not available or was not enabled.
Impact

The Auto Monitor feature is costly to system resources and should only be enabled (through User Preferences) when users are expecting a job status change.
