Creating links to images

In Infor Smart Office, you can create a link to an image from a list or detail panel or program. The image must be stored in Infor Document Management.

For example, you can create a link to .jpeg image of a product and link it to its description in the inventory master. You do this by using Link Manager to create a link to the image.

Perform these steps to create a link to an image:

  1. If your image is not already in IDM, add it now following instructions in the Infor Document Management documentation or from your system administrator.
  2. If necessary, make note of the field that you want to associate with the image. You will be prompted for this value at a later step in this procedure)

You can obtain the field ID by hovering your cursor over the field.

  3. Launch Link Manager from Navigator. It is grouped with Administration Tools.
Note: Although Link Manager can be launched from within an MForm, do not launch it that way in this case. Some fields will be pre-populated with read-only data.
  4. On the Link Manager dialog box, click New.
  5. On the dialog box that appears, specify the title and description for the link.
  6. Select Shared unless you want the image to be visible only to you.
  7. Specify a period (dot character) in the Function and Panel fields.
  8. From the Target drop-down, select Infor Document Management and then Choose Next.
  9. Select Image for Document Type and Name for Attribute.
  10. For Operator, select = (or whatever operator is appropriate in your case) and then select M3 Transactions.
  11. For Field, specify the name of the field to which you want your image to be linked and then click Add.
  12. On the MForm on which you want the image to appear, click the item that you want to associate with the image and then click Tools > Related Information.
  13. On the Related Information dialog box, click the arrow next to settings to begin configuring the image link.
    1. Link: Select the link to the image from the drop-down.
    2. Sync with List: Optional. If this option is selected the image will change when the selected list row is changed.
    3. Keep information from current panel: If this option is selected, the image will still be displayed when the user opens other panels.
  14. Test the new link to make sure it functions as intended.
Note: Click the external viewer button underneath the image beside the document name to open it in the IDM client.

If there are multiple documents attached to an item, the arrow keys can be used to scroll between them. Click the plus magnifier button to open the document in the Windows-associated viewer program.
