Infor Smart Office Client installation overview

Infor Smart Office client component is installed on users' desktop machines. Users update Infor Smart Office client from the installation point.

There are two options for installing the client component:

  • The ClickOnce installation option: Users access an installation point URL to install the client and get automatic updates. The ClickOnce installation does not support Windows roaming profiles.
  • The Windows installer (.msi) option: Recommended for virtual desktop environments where multiple users access a single client machine. In this scenario, the client framework is installed on the client machine. The features are loaded from the installation point. Installing with a URL

The user can start, install, or update Infor Smart Office client framework is installed on the client machine. The features by clicking on a URL. The URL can be placed at these locations:

  • A web page

  • An e-mail

  • On a desktop icon (that can be pushed out)

  • Any other place where a URL can be placed and clicked on

Once Infor Smart Office has been installed at the client machine, it can be started either from a URL or from the Windows Start menu.

Note: If Infor Smart Office is started from a URL, the installation point must be accessible.

When starting Infor Smart Office from the Start menu in Windows, it is not necessary for the installation point to be accessible; Infor Smart Office will start anyway.

Choosing the language for installation

By default, the desktop component of Infor Smart Office will install in the language specified in the user's Regional and Language Options dialog in Windows. If Infor Smart Office does not include the specified language, the installation will default to English.

Pushing out Infor Smart Office

Administrators can automatically push updates to users' machines. See Pushing the Infor Smart Office to Client Machines.

Administrative rights on the machine

Depending on how the administrator of the domain has configured the domain and what type of certificate was used when signing the manifest files, the user may or may not be allowed to install Infor Smart Office with user privileges on the client machine. However, it is always possible to configure Active Directory to allow the users to install Infor Smart Office with only user privileges.

To ensure that users can install Infor Smart Office, these requirements must be met:

  • The certificate used to sign the manifest file must be placed in the Trusted Publisher list on the client.
  • The certificate that issued the certificate used to sign the manifest file must be placed in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities list on the client.
