Troubleshooting LBI Watches

Messages do not appear in the Inbox

Problem Possible causes

If you work in Infor Smart Office on one machine, and then log on to a different machine, you will see the following:

  • Some deleted messages reappear and are marked as unread.

  • Some messages have disappeared.

There are two potential causes for this issue:

  • When you log onto a machine for the first time, your LBI Inbox channel is empty. LBI checks at regular intervals for watches that have been triggered since the last time the Inbox was updated. Any new triggered messages will be added to the channel and displayed in the Inbox. The time of the last update is also cached on the local machine. When you log onto another machine, the same channel does not exist and the last Inbox update time is initialized to a very early date. LBI will look for all watches in the triggered state since this date, and will only display the messages for the last processing. So, if the watch had triggered multiple times, you will only see the last occurrence and the user might think he/she has lost some messages. Since the last update time is a very early date, messages you had previously read or removed may reappear as unread state.

  • Check the Inbox refresh rate. If your Inbox refresh rate is set to an interval that is longer than the frequency of a watch's schedule, you may miss messages for triggers that have occurred between Inbox updates for that watch. Set your Inbox refresh rate to be lower than the minimum frequency choice available. The Inbox refresh rate is set in the LBI.xml settings file.

Broken widgets on canvas

Problem Possible causes
A gauge or heartbeat widget may display with the yellow-triangle-exclamation symbol. The tool-tip reads "Broken Watch. Unable to update data feed."

There are several potential causes for this issue:

  • Your computer is not connected to the network or your network is down.

  • The Smart Notifcations server is down, or the server encountered a problem while processing the watch.

  • You have two instances of Infor Smart Office running on the same machine. You created a watch to display in the first instance. You delete the watch from the Manager in the second instance, and shut the application down. You then shut down the first instance of Infor Smart Office. You bring Infor Smart Office back up and see a broken widget.

This happens because even though the watch is deleted in instance two, the widget for the watch and its channel still exist in instance one. The widget is sent back to the server and the channel is locally cached when instance one is shut down. Therefore, when Infor Smart Office is brought back up, the widget appears with data but is marked as broken since it could not be updated (because there is no watch in the Smart Notes DB). Note: This will lead to an orphaned channel.

A widget may display with the yellow-triangle-exclamation symbol. The tool-tip reads "Watch schedule is off. Value may be out of date."

This is normal behavior for the widget. It occurs under the following conditions:

  • The watch was set up with the schedule (page 2 of the watch wizard) turned off.

  • The watch was set up to run once, or the watch was set up to run until triggered.

In this case, the watch schedule is automatically turned off because the condition it was set up with has been met. The widget indicates that the watch schedule is off so that they don't assume that the value shown is the most current.

Dead widgets on canvas

Problem Possible causes
You see dead widgets on your canvas This occurs when a watch was created and added to canvas. The local cache has since been deleted (i.e. the channel is gone) and the watch record has been deleted manually from the Smart Notes database.
