Pushing out .msi from the Active Directory
The computer you want to work with has to exist in the organization unit (OU) where you link your policy.
- Create an installation point on a server. To do this, you need to create a shared folder then copy the installation package to the created folder.
- Open the Group Policy Management tool for the OU where you want to install the .msi file. In the Active Directory Users and Computers window, right-click the UE folder, then select Properties.
- On the Group Policy tab in the UE Properties window, click .
- Create a new Group Policy object. Right-click the UE folder and select .
- Specify a name a click .
- Right-click the newly created Group Policy Object and select .
- Expand the field.
- Right-click Software Installation and select Properties.
- On the General tab, type the location of the folder you have created earlier (which serves as the default package location) and click the Display and Deploy Software dialog box.
- Under Installation User Interface Options, select and click .
- In the left panel, right-click Software Installation and select .
- Specify the name of the .msi package to be installed.
- Under Deployment State field, select Assigned.
- Go back to Group Policy Management then select the OU where you want to link the created policy.
- Click Link an Existing GPO then choose the policy you have created or edited if it is not already linked.
