The hot safe option is to create a new data source and then change the portal configuration to use the new data source.

You can export configured data sources to save them for later use. Steps are provided in the portal installation guide.
Importing a data source configuration
You can import data sources that have been configured and exported. Steps are provided in the portal administration guide.
