Duplicate Serial Numbers

The same serial number can be assigned to different items in inventory. This affects many areas of the application but is fairly seamless for the end user. In some situations, such as servicing other people's equipment, the user does not have control over the serial number that was assigned to a unit. Therefore, if a manufacturer allows the same serial number to be placed on different products, the user can now create a unit with the same number for both products.

Note: In places where the user is prompted for a serial or unit number, the default item is the item value of the first unit found.
