Logging diagnostic messages

We recommend that you enable diagnostic logging only when you need information for troubleshooting. This minimizes performance impact on your system. When you have determined that certain portal events need to be monitored, you can enable logging on specified servers and events.

  1. Launch the Portal Manager for the portal for which to log events.
  2. Select Portal Configuration > Developer Options.
  3. Select Enable logging for the selected events.
  4. Select the event or events to log. When you select a category, all events within the category are selected. You can expand the categories to select or clear individual events. As long as one event is selected within a category, the category remains selected.
  5. Click Save.

You can update the configuration any time by changing your selections and clicking Save. The new configuration is saved and used each time you enable logging, until you change the configuration and save again.

To stop logging, clear the Enable logging for the selected events check box.

Note: If different administrative users connect to the same portal to run diagnostics at different times, they will all see the last event configuration saved by any user. To change logged events without affecting all users, you can use the filtering options described in Filtering diagnostic messages. These settings apply to only your local Diagnostic Viewer.
