Unexpected errors

There are times when a message is logged in diagnostics even if you have not enabled logging in the Portal Manager. An API has been added to the portal pages which forces a message into the log when an unexpected error occurs, including these:

  • The IDO collection load fails
  • A custom load method fails
  • A call to a backend method fails
  • Saving changes to the back office fails

For these types of unexpected errors, this message is displayed to the portal user: “The system encountered an unexpected error. Refresh the form and try again. If the problem continues, please contact the website administrator. Error: <number>.”

A different error number is system-generated each time one of these types of error occurs. You can search for the error number in portal diagnostics to troubleshoot the problem.
