Managing IPF

To manage IPF, select Farm Configuration > IPF Control. These tasks are performed on the IPF Control tab:

  • Add or remove Farm Manager users.
  • Enable multi-tenant support.
  • Connect to a load balanced URL.
  • Clear all caches for all servers.
  • Specify SMTP settings for portal email at the farm level. These settings can be overridden in the Portal Manager for selected portals.

Adding or removing Farm Manager users

Initially, only the IPF database access user account specified during IPF installation can access the Farm Manager. On the IPF Control tab, you can give additional users or groups permissions to work with the Farm Manager. For steps, see Adding Farm Manager users.

To remove a user or group, click Edit, select the user or group to remove, and click the delete icon.

Enabling multi-tenant support

This feature is for internal use only. Multi-tenant support is enabled by importing the IPF license document.

Connecting to a load-balanced URL

If you have multiple servers in your farm, you can choose to connect to the load-balanced URL instead of a particular machine. To do so, specify the name of the load balancer in the IPF Control Load Balancer Host Name field.

Clearing all caches for all servers

If you experience problems after clearing data source and content version cache, you can use the Clear All Caches/All Servers button on the IPF Control tab to clear all caches for all servers. This may resolve the issue without needing to restart IIS, which would cause user sessions to be interrupted.

Specifying SMTP settings

Note:  These settings are not used for the Service Portal.

Specify the SMTP server that will send portal email messages. You must provide the name or absolute IP address, the port number, and the authentication type required by the server. If the email server uses SSL to encrypt the connection, you must select Enable SSL. You can test the connection by clicking Test and specifying the From (sender) and To (recipient) email addresses. If the connection is set up correctly, a test email is received at the recipient email address.

These settings are used for all portals in the farm, unless settings are overridden in the Portal Manager for selected portals.
