Open Link/Attachment button

This button is labeled and performs differently depending on the client that you are using. In the Windows client, you can use the Open Attachment button. In the web client, you can use the Open Link button. The file or the link must exist in a location that is accessible to any users who might access it from the note.

You can open attached links in both the Windows client and the web client, but you can open attached files only in the Windows client.

For more information, see Working with Notes and About attaching external files and links to notes.

Open Attachment (Windows client only)

To open an attached file, click this button.

Attached files are not imported into the system. Only the full file path and the file name are stored in the Note Content field. If you rename or delete the file, or if the file is moved to another location, then the Open Attachment button returns an error. You can open attached files and attached links in the Windows client.

Open Link (web client only)

To open an attached link, click this button.

The attached link is stored in the Note Content field. If the URL is changed and you select the Open Link button, then the browser returns an error.

By default, attached links are opened in a web browser. To open an attached file, when using the web client, copy the full path of the file from the Note Content field and paste it on the address bar of the file explorer. Alternatively, click the Open Attachment button and on the web browser, click Copy Link, then paste the link on the address bar of the file explorer.
