Displaying FormSync messages in the log

During the synchronization process, depending on your settings, FormSync can record prompts and other messages in a log. You can later review the contents of this log to identify problems or evaluate how you responded to prompts.

Access to the FormSync Log depends on which version of FormSync you are using:

  • In the form version, on the main page, click View Log.
  • In the stand-alone version, from the File menu, select Log > View.
  1. With the log open, filter for the kinds of log messages you want to review.
To retrieve a particular type of message, select the check box next to that type. To omit messages of that type, clear the check box. Options include these:
    • Progress: Selected by default
    • Warning: Selected by default
    • Error: Selected by default
    • Prompts: Available only in the stand-alone version; cleared by default
    • View upgrade log: Used to display only those entries that pertain to a product upgrade; cleared by default
  2. Optionally, in the Text field, specify a filter on message text:
This option filters the text only in selected types of messages.
    • To retrieve all messages, leave this field blank.
    • To retrieve messages that consist of a known string, enter the complete string.
    • To retrieve messages that contain a string, enter part of the string and use the percent sign (%) as a wildcard character. For example, to retrieve only those messages that contain abc, enter %abc% in this field.
Note: If you do not use the wild card, FormSync searches for messages that consist only of the exact text string you enter. For example, if you enter version, then only those messages that consist entirely of the word "version" display (which, of course, would be highly unlikely). To locate all messages that contain the word "version", you must enclose it in wild cards: %version%

Note also that this filter is not case-sensitive. "Version" is treated exactly like "version", for example.

  3. Click Refresh.
The FormSync Log filters out any log entries that do not conform to the filter criteria.

You can repeat this process (set the filter and then click Refresh) as needed to locate the desired entries.
