About App Metadata Transport

Use the App Metadata Transport form/utility to export or import metadata for these objects:

  • IDOs
  • Property classes
  • Custom assemblies
  • The Application Event System (AES)
  • Replication documents, which include Business Object Documents (BODs), inbound cross references, and outbound cross references
  • Critical numbers
  • DataViews
  • DataView actions
  • DataSearch sources from an XML file to a target database
  • Form extensions
  • Init data from specified tables (Command Line Interface only)

The typical use of this utility includes these basic steps:

  1. Export the metadata from a Source database to an XML file.
  2. Import the metadata from an XML file to a Target database.

The App Metadata Transport utility can be run using any of these methods:

  • Use the App Metadata Transport form in the web client or the Windows client.
    Note: This form is created for instances where the App Metadata Transport stand-alone utility cannot be run due to security concerns.
  • Run the AppMetadataTransport.exe file from a command line.
  • Locate and double-click the AppMetadataTransport.exe file in the folder where the application is installed.
    Note: This option is available only in an on-premises installation where you have access to this utility as a stand-alone executable.
