Defining Ledger Dimensions

  1. Open the Ledger Dimensions form.
  2. For a new dimension, turn off Filter-in-Place and select Actions > New.
  3. Specify a name and description for the dimension.
  4. For each sequence, select an attribute. A description and value are displayed by default.
  5. Optionally, specify this information:
    Masking
For numeric or date fields, specify an appropriate mask here.
    Hidden
Select this check box to hide the selected attribute in the results.
    Required
Select this check box to make the attribute required when transactions for the associated record are entered. If it is required, then users cannot save a transaction until a value is entered. This option is used for only dimension analysis attributes and is applied for only General or user-defined journal entries. It does not apply to system journals because they are generated by Service Management core functions. Analysis attributes cannot be populated at that time.
  6. Optionally, click Joins to open the Dimension Table Joins form, where you can define the base table for the ledger object.
  7. Optionally, click Attributes to open the Dimension Attributes form, where you can control which attributes are visible to an end user.
  8. Optionally, click Resequence to resequence all attributes in multiples of 10. That is, the first attribute is Sequence 10, the second attribute is Sequence 20, and so on. This indicates the order the attributes appear in the related dimension details form.

If you have already specified sequence numbers for some attributes, the sequence order is honored. For example, if you have four attributes currently sequenced as 10, 20, 21, and 30, they are resequenced to 10, 20, 30, and 40.

  9. Save the record.
