About Global Items

On the Global Items form, you can specify default item information to be shared across sites. When an item is added to a site (and the item does not already exist in any other shared site), the item is also added as a "Global Item" and displays in the Global Items form.

For example, you add item XYZ to site A through the Items form. Item XYZ is a new item and does not previously exist at any other shared site. The system also automatically creates a Global Items record for item XYZ. This record contains the item number and description, unit of measure, and shipping site for item XYZ. The Global Items record is replicated from Site A to all other shared sites (including Site B).

You can change the item's Description, U/M or Shipping Site field values on the Global Items form. This will not change the values of these fields for any existing item XYZ at any site; however, the new values will be used as defaults for any later additions of item XYZ at shared sites where XYZ does not currently exist.

The Global Items description and unit of measure display (and may be updated) when item XYZ is added on the Items form at Site B. This allows you to have consistent item numbering in shared sites.

Typically, shared sites have identical Global Items default values when all sites are within the same country. In the case where sites are in different countries, the Description and U/M fields can be updated as required.

Note:  In this description, "shared sites" means the Centralized Order Entry category and/or the Inventory/Transfers category are being replicated between the sites.
