Package Tracking Overview

This topic provides an overview of package tracking.

Overview

You can associate orders within Service Management to package tracking numbers in third party shipping applications, either manually or via integration leveraging data mapping files.

Prior to implementing the Package Tracking Interface, the communication between the ERP database and the third party shipping application must be established. Basic data maps are included as part of the installation files.

Shipping Process

  • From within UPS WorldShip and/or FedEx Ship Manager, perform a "Keyed Import" where the user will be prompted for an Order Number.
  • The interface will query the Service Management data and return the customer and order information.
  • Process the shipment through the third party application.
  • Upon completion of the shipment, the system will automatically:
    • Update the order's freight charges
    • Create Package Tracking records that contains tracking numbers, container count and weight of the shipment

Package Tracking

The Package Tracking form is intended to provide a window into packages which have been sent via a third party carrier.

Note: Multiple orders can be manually added to a single shipment.

Shipping Carriers

The Shipping Carriers form was created to allow maintenance of Shipping Carrier Codes and allow them to be associated to a specific tracking website.

Note: A Carrier must be defined in order for the Shipping Interface to be enabled. SQL Views will be created named "to[XXX]" and "from[XXX]" (where [XXX] represents the Carrier Code). The data maps will utilize the Carrier SQL Views when passing information between Service Management and the third party application. Data Maps are provided for UPS and FedEx, but Maps for any other shipping provider must be created manually.

Ship Via Codes

The existing Ship Via Codes form has been extended so that the Shipping Carrier can be associated to each Ship Via Code. This way different types of shipping methods can be set up and married back to the same shipping carrier.

Customer Account Number

The account number that uniquely identifies the Service Management customer in the third party shipping package can be stored in the customer master for data mapping purposes.
