Using a Service Order as a Project

With the Service Order Project Scheduling form, you can use a service order as a project. The grid and Gantt chart provide views into the levels and durations of each part of a service order.

When using a service order as a project, view the levels in this way:

  • SRO header = Project
  • SRO lines = Project milestones
  • SRO operations = Project tasks
  • Appointments = Appointments

When using a service order to represent a project, we recommend that you select Sync Start/End Dates From Appointment for any SRO types that are to be used for the project. This setting assists in keeping the parent-child relationship, with regard to the timeline throughout the different levels of the service order.

See Using the Service Order Project Scheduling Form for information about changing the display and Gantt chart settings.

You can also perform these tasks by right-clicking on an item in the grid.

Critical Numbers

These critical number gauges are included on the form:

  • Tasks Unassigned: This critical number gauge shows the number of SROs, SRO lines, and SRO operations that do not have a partner assigned.
  • Tasks Overdue: This critical number gauge shows the number of SROs, SRO lines, SRO operations, and SRO appointments that are overdue. The End Date and Status of a task are used to determine if it is overdue.
  • Tasks Percent Completed: This critical number gauge shows the number of SROs, SRO lines, SRO operations, and SRO appointments that have been completed compared to the total number.

Gantt Chart Functions

  • Maintaining Start and End Times: Start and End Times can be manipulated in two ways:
    • Click in the grid and select a value from the calendar control
    • Hover over a task in the Gantt chart and click when the crosshair arrows are displayed, then drag the task to the desired date.
Note: If the Sync SRO Start/End Dates from Appointments check box is selected for the associated SRO type, a change in Start and/or End Date might be overridden by child appointments associated with the task.
  • Editing Appointment Durations: Change the duration of an appointment by hovering over the appointment block in the Gantt chart and clicking when the bidirectional arrows are displayed, then expand or contract the width of the appointment block.
  • Changing Partners: The Partner column in the grid lists the Lead Partner for service orders, SRO lines, and tasks, and the partner assigned to an appointment. Change this value by double-clicking on the applicable cell and selecting a new value from the drop-down list.
  • Changing Status: The Status column in the grid lists the working status of the service order, appointment, operation, and line. If this value is set to a Closed or Complete value, the task is grayed out and the row is no longer available for update.
  • Center Divider: The center divider between the grid and Gantt chart can be moved to expose more or less information from each side. If you click on the center of the divider, the grid is hidden and the Gantt chart is expanded.
