Using the System Trace Utility

By default, a system trace file is generated on the SQL Server. This typically requires administrator permissions to access. If you have appropriate permissions, the Open Folder button is displayed on the System Trace Utility form.

To run a trace:

  1. Open each form needed to reproduce the scenario for diagnosis.
  2. Open the System Trace Utility form.
  3. Click Start.
  4. Reproduce the scenario for diagnosis (without closing the System Trace Utility form).
  5. Return the to the System Trace Utility form.
  6. Click Stop.
  7. Access the trace file.
  8. Email a compressed (zipped) version to technical support.

After the utility is run successfully, retrieve the trace file, compress it, and send it to the technical support contact.

Note: You can use the filter fields on the Advanced tab to limit the results of the trace file to specific values. Use the Running Traces grid on the Advanced tab to identify or stop SQL traces that are already in process. For additional information regarding this utility or the Advanced options that can be leveraged, contact Infor Support.
