Formatting Rules

The conversion maps fields from the current format to the new format based on these four rules:

  • Fields are mapped based on their specification (main account, sub-account) and Index position.

The first main account field of the current format maps to the first main account field of the new format, and the second to the second.

If there are more fields in the old format than in the current format, the system discards the unmapped old fields.

The same mapping occurs for the Sub-Account field.

  • If a character field is mapped to an integer field, the system converts any non-numeric characters to zeros.
  • If a field is mapped to an integer field that is smaller than the original field, a prompt is displayed:

Select Right to right-justify the mapping and discard the left portion of the current field which does not fit in the new format.

Select Left to left-justify the mapping and discard the right portion of the current field which does not fit into the new format.

  • If a field is mapped to a character field that is smaller than the current format, the mapping is left-justified and the system discards the right portion of the current field which does not fit into the new format.
