Comparing projects

Use this functionality to compare two projects to identify the differences between the projects. If, for example,  you are working on a project which has also been modified by someone else, you may want to run a comparison to identify what changed. The report generated can then be saved to a CSV file.

Note: Projects created using  different studio versions cannot be compared. To compare such projects, you will have to import and then export the older version into the new studio version.

Compare a project as follows:

  1. From the Tools menu, click Compare.
  2. In the Compare window, browse for the project against which to compare the current project. You can pick a project from the database or a file:
    • Database: This refers to a project on either the Studio database or a project published to the database on the server.
    • File: This refers to the XML file created when the project is exported
  3. Select the required database to view a list of available projects to select from. Select the project and click Compare with. The Compare window is displayed. Drill down to view the attributes with the modified status or to copy the details to the clipboard.
  4. To compare only Destinations tables, select the check box Skip sources and mappings.
  5. Click Compare.
On the Compare screen, you can view the attributes, the project available on the Studio Database , and the project in comparison. The status column shows these legends:
    • Orange: Indicates that either the root object or an object in the hierarchy underwent a change. The change may occur only at the bottommost level.
    • Green: These objects exist only in the project in comparison.
    • Red: These objects exist only in the project available on the Studio Database.
