The SQL Server Service Account

This account can be used with either Windows authentication or SQL authentication:

For Windows authentication, either the domain or local system account may be used:

• In case of a domain account, the SPN (Service Principal Name) must be registered by the domain administrator. The SPN is used to identify any network resource such as a web service or a SQL service. For a local system account, SPN registration is automatic.
