Creating users in SAP

Before using IRC to manage SAP, create an SAP user of the type ‘Communication’ (or RFC). This user should have a role with minimum privileges. This SAP user will be responsible for SAP data extraction, user creation, and the assignment / revocation of roles / profiles through IRC.

Note: Unless you create an SAP user with minimum privileges, IRC cannot connect to the SAP system and extract SAP data.

Communication users are client-specific. It is mandatory to maintain individual user records for each SAP client prior to creating connections in IRC.

Create a Communication User in SAP as follows:

  1. Log on to the SAP system. .
  2. From the Tools menu, point to Administration, then to User Maintenance and click User or execute transaction SU01 from command field).
  3. In the User Maintenance initial screen, enter a new user name.
  4. Select the Create icon.
  5. Assign a password to the SAP user and select the user type ‘Communication’. A change of password is not required for ‘Communication’ users.
  6. Specify address details, set default options, assign roles and authorization profiles and enter any other required information.
  7. Save the information entered.
