Using Parameters and Parameter Lists

Parameters can be attached to rule conditions while building rules instead of hard-coding values. Values are added to the parameters when they are part of a parameter list. During analysis, the placeholders are substituted with the actual values.

When parameter lists are associated with rules they can also be used to define:

  • Exclusions
  • Notifications

Parameter lists when used in this way can act as filters during analysis and help you to define your exclusions. For example, when you exclude an object from a rule, only the exceptions generated by the values in the parameter lists would be excluded instead of all exceptions generated for the rule.

However, even when you attach a parameter list with a rule, you can still provide a different parameter list during analysis.
