Creating connection for Oracle

Create a connection for Oracle as follows:

  1. Provide a user defined connection name. This name is used to refer to this connection while scheduling an extraction.
  2. Provide a description for this connection.
  3. Provide the user name and password to create a connection and extract data. This user must have appropriate privileges within Oracle to extract data. For the minimum privileges required to extract data for the Authorizations Insight for Oracle, refer to the Oracle - Configuration Settings Guide.
  4. In the Protocol field, provide the network protocol for this connection in its abbreviated format. Most commonly TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) is used for the communication.
  5. In the Host field, provide the name of the machine hosting the Oracle application.
  6. In the Port field, provide the port number for the remote Oracle connection. This is the port number in the tnsnames.ora file for sqlnet connections. The tnsnames.ora file is generated by the Oracle configuration tools.
  7. In the TNS Alias field, provide the Transparent Network Substrate (TNS Alias). This is the service name that is defined during the Oracle database creation.
Note: The service name is the logical representation of a database. A database can be presented as multiple services and a service can be implemented as multiple database instances. The service name is a string that is the global database name comprising the database name and domain name entered during installation or database creation. If you are not sure what the global database name is, you can obtain it from the value of the service_names parameter in the initialization parameter file.
  8. From the Language drop-down list, select the extraction language.
  9. Selecting the User ID Policies check box enables you to define the combination of characters that should be used to specify the User ID for the users created for this connection through an User Creation What-if or an User Creation Request. Clear this check box if you do not wish to define the user ID policies. By default, the check box is selected.
    Note:
    • If the combination of characters for the user ID is defined, the User ID specified in the New User ID field while creating an Oracle User Creation What-if or an Oracle User Creation Request must follow the same combination of characters that is defined here.
    • If the combination of characters for the user ID is not defined, the User ID may be specified as required by the creator of the request or What-if and will be retained as it is typed.
    • If the Platform is upgraded from a previous version, the page for the connection created in the previous version displays the check box User ID Policies and the following conditions for the user ID as selected.
    • The User ID Type drop-down list displays the option UPPER CASE.
    • The Minimum User ID length text box displays, 1, which means the minimum length of the user ID must be 1 character.
    • The Maximum User ID length text box displays 12, which means the maximum length of the user ID must be 12 characters.
  10. Select  whether data from this connection should be secured.
  11. Select whether users extracted from this connection should be mapped.
  12. Click Save. The new connection is now visible on the Oracle panel on the Connections page. Once a connection is created, you can schedule an extraction for it.
