Configuring costing settings

You can specify what cost model is automatically applied when a user creates a new style or through other means.

This table shows how the exception matrix rules are applied when creating styles.

Way of creating styles How the rules are applied
Manually When the criteria fields are filled with values consistent with the exception matrix, specific cost model is applied.

When the criteria fields are not filled with values consistent with the exception matrix, the default cost model is applied.

Copied from another style When the Costing info cluster is not selected, exception matrix rules are applied.

When Costing info cluster is selected, exception matrix is not applied (even if there is no cost model assigned to the source record).

As a variant of another style When the Costing info cluster is not selected, exception matrix rules are applied.

When Costing info cluster is selected, exception matrix is not applied (even if there is no cost model assigned to the source record).

Mass create When the Costing info cluster is not selected, exception matrix rules are applied.

When Costing info cluster is selected, exception matrix is not applied (even if there is no cost model assigned to the source record).

Mass create carryover When the Costing info cluster is not selected, exception matrix rules are applied.

When Costing info cluster is selected, exception matrix is not applied (even if there is no cost model assigned to the source record).

Carried over The default cost model does not apply because it will always follow the source record, even if there is no cost model assigned to the source record.

This table shows how the exception matrix rules are applied when updating styles.

Way of updating style How the rules are applied
Manually Updates on the criteria fields of an existing style does not trigger the application of the exception matrix.

The cost model on an existing style can be updated.

Through mass update When the Costing info cluster is not selected, exception matrix rules are applied.

When Costing info cluster is not selected, exception matrix rules are applied if target record has an existing cost model assigned to it.

When Costing info cluster is selected, exception matrix is not applied (even if there is no cost model assigned to the source record).

Note: On the current and existing behavior of Mass Update, independent from Costing Settings, when a style already has an existing cost model or cost element or costing header information is already updated, even if it has been deleted, the Mass update functionality will no longer update the Cost Model header information but will still update the cost elements.
  1. Select Settings > Costing.
  2. In the Criteria Fields section, specify the fields that will be part of the criteria. You can only specify a maximum of four fields.
The sequence is followed when the columns are displayed in the Exception Matrix, from left to right (that is, sequence 1 is next to the Priority column, sequence 2 is next to sequence 1, and so on). For example, if you select "Brand" as criteria sequence 1, it will be the leftmost column (after the Priority column) in the exception matrix. You can choose to use less than four criteria.

Any updates that you make here will not be applied on existing styles.

If you delete a criteria field, any criteria that uses that deleted field (and its respective values) are removed from the Exception Matrix.

  3. Click the Add (plus sign) icon to add a criteria in the Exception Matrix.
  4. For each row in the Exception Matrix, specify this information:
    Criteria Field Sequence 1
This column shows the criteria field that you have assigned as sequence 1. Select a value from the list.
    Criteria Field Sequence 2
This column shows the criteria field that you have assigned as sequence 2. Select a value from the list.
    Criteria Field Sequence 3
This column shows the criteria field that you have assigned as sequence 1. Select a value from the list.
    Criteria Field Sequence 4
This column shows the criteria field that you have assigned as sequence 2. Select a value from the list.
    Cost Model
Select a cost model that is assigned to styles that match the exception matrix criteria.
    Evaluation
This column indicates whether the exception matrix criteria is valid (check sign) or invalid (exclamation point). Redundant criteria are tagged as invalid. Blank criteria in between filled criteria are also tagged as invalid.
Note: The priority changes depending on whether you select a value for each criteria field column. The highest priority, which is 10, is assigned to a row that has values for all criteria field columns.

You can use priority 90 as the default cost model. This is applied when a style does not fall into any other priorities.

Blank columns are only allowed if they are the right most criteria in the exception matrix row.

  5. Click Save or press Alt+S.
Note: You cannot save if there is an invalid criteria.
