Work with the elements palette and canvas 2.0

The elements palette and canvas are essential tools for building and editing process maps. The elements palette provides shapes and connectors. The canvas serves as the workspace that users use to arrange and link these shapes. This section describes how users use the elements palette and canvas to design process maps.

Elements Palette 2.0

Process map elements are building blocks that represent steps, decisions, and flow in a process. Each element has a specific purpose:
  • Rectangles represent activities or tasks.
  • Circles represent start or end points.
  • Diamonds represent decision points.
You can arrange and connect elements on the canvas to communicate sequence, relationships, and logic in a process. This structure helps you understand, analyze, and improve workflows.

This table gives an overview of the elements available on the palette:

Element Icon Description
Rectangle Rectangle_ipi_pmd Draw a rectangle shape.
Circle Circle_ipi_pmd Draw a circle shape.
Diamond Diamond_ipi_pmd Draw a diamond shape,
Chevron Chevron_ipi_pmd Draw a chevron shape.
Button Button_ipi_pmd Add a button shape.
Image Image_ipi_pmd Insert an image on the canvas. You can select any image from an Image Library in the registry.
Line Line_ipi_pmd Draw a line. Use it to connect two shapes, or as a stand-alone separator.
Text Text_ipi_pmd Add a text label.
Container Container_ipi_pmd Insert a container on the canvas.

A container has a rectangle shape but it has specific business attributes. Use a container to group several other shapes. Insert other shapes in the area of the container.

Add element 2.0

To add an element:

  • From the palette: Drag a shape from the elements palette onto the canvas and place it in the desired location.
  • From the context menu: Right-click an existing element on the canvas and select one of the available shape icons.

The new element is added and automatically connected to the selected element with a straight line.

Move the element as needed.

To specify the element name in the text label, double-click the element.

To hide the label, clear the Show label checkbox next to Name in the element’s attributes panel.

Edit element attributes and add related documents 2.0

  1. Select an element on the canvas to display its properties in the attributes panel.
  2. In the main attributes section, specify basic properties such as the name, description, and formatting options.
  3. To edit business attributes, in the business attributes section, specify values such as the business process code and key characteristics.

These values are shown in the element’s attributes panel in Process Viewer and are included in documents generated for the process map.

If needed, to add related documents, attach one or more documents from Infor Document Management (IDM) or add a link to a web resource.

In Process Viewer, you can open or download these documents to access additional information related to the process map.

To configure custom attributes, specify values for any custom attributes defined for the element.

For details about configuring custom attributes, see Infor Process Intelligence User and Administration Library (Cloud) and select Administrator > Infor Process Intelligence Administration Guide > Custom Attributes.
