Assisted modeling

Assisted modeling helps designers organize content efficiently by automatically assigning new items to a predefined registry structure. This structure is based on folder-to-category mappings defined by an administrator.

How registry entries work

Folders contain subfolders and process models. These models use registry entries to store labels and translations. By default, values specified directly in modelers are saved in auto-generated registry entries under the defaultCategory. You can also select existing entries from an unlocked category.

With the predefined registry structure and the registry reorganization tool, you can reorganize registry entries used by content in a main folder after it is created.

Benefits of assisted modeling

When assisted modeling is enabled for a folder:

  • New content is automatically assigned to the correct registry category.
  • Designers do not need to manually select categories.
  • Modeling becomes faster and more consistent.

To enable assisted modeling for a folder, an administrator must define a category mapping in Configuration > Assisted Modeling.

Registry entry usage

Assisted modeling applies a predefined category path when:

  • Selecting registry entries for folder names and descriptions.
  • Selecting registry entries for process model names and descriptions.
  • Assigning values to attributes in process model elements.
  • Selecting images for the IT System element in BPMN models and the Image element in Process Maps.

Designers can select registry entries from other paths. These entries are moved or copied to the predefined path when the registry reorganization tool is run.

Warning indicator

If content becomes disorganized, a warning icon is displayed next to the folder name in tree view. The message indicates that changes were made to the folder and the registry reorganization tool must be run again.

This warning appears when:

  • The folder-category mapping is changed.

  • A subfolder is moved or copied from another folder with a different category mapping.
  • A main folder with a different category mapping is imported as a subfolder.
  • A registry entry from a different category is used during model editing.

The warning icon does not appear if the folder is locked or used in a comparison. It is removed only after the registry reorganization tool is run.

Best practices

To keep content organized, follow these best practices:

  • Define category mappings when creating new main folders.

  • For existing folders, add mappings and run the registry reorganization tool.

  • If a warning appears, notify the administrator to run the tool.

  • Before exporting folder data, ask the administrator to run the tool.
