Defining object details

After clicking NEXT on the Select Items to Register page, the Define Object Details page is displayed.
  1. Optionally, in the Object Name Prefix field, specify a prefix for all your objects. This helps to ensure the names of your objects are unique in Data Catalog. The prefix is prepended to all object names when the object metadata is generated.
  2. To change the name of an object in the Objects to Register list, click inside the Name column of the row you want to edit.
To escape edit mode, click anywhere outside of the cell.
If several objects have the same set of characters to be replaced, then use the Find and Replace feature to update them all at once.

See Finding and replacing characters in object names.

  3. To define the additional metadata properties for an object, select an object in the Objects to Register list.
Note: To have the crawler define the Identifier Paths for all objects based on the primary keys in the database definition, click Set Primary Keys as Identifier Paths. The Metadata Crawler defines the Identifier Paths for all objects in the Objects to Register list when you click this button. The crawler runs through each object in the list and assigns all primary keys from the table or view definition as the Identifier Paths for the object.

Any objects that already have the Identifier Paths defined are skipped during this process.

  4. To the right of the object list, each of the additional metadata properties has a field to define this information.
    1. Click the icon inside each field to launch a lookup widget.
    2. Select from the list which property, or properties, are to be used as the Identifier Paths, Variation Path, Timestamp Path, Delete Indicator Path, and Archive Indicator Path.

Identifier Paths can have multiple properties selected. The other fields are limited to a single property.

If a Delete Indicator Path or Archive Indicator Path is selected, then you must define an indicator value. The Delete Indicator Value and Archive Indicator Value must match the data type of their respective path selections. For example, if the data type of the Delete Indicator Path is a number, then the Delete Indicator Value is expected to be a number.

  5. Click NEXT to review the list of objects to be registered and to start the metadata generation process.
