Building the first job

Jobs must consist of several basics steps.

Ensure to include these steps:

  • START
  • Transformation
  • Success

For additional information about multiple transformations in a job, see Multiple transformation and jobs setup.

To build the first job:

  1. In the Spoon dialog box select File > New > Job.
    Alternatively, you can click the + icon and click Job.
  2. Double-click or drag the START step to the Job tab on the right-hand pane.
  3. Double-click or drag the Transformation step to the Job tab on the right-hand pane next to the START step.
    1. Link the START step to the Transformation step.
    2. Hover over the START step, click the output connector icon and drag the connection arrow to the Transformation step.
  4. Configure the Transformation step.
    1. Double-click the Transformation step to open the Job entry details for this transformation dialog box.
    2. Select the Specify by name and directory check box.
    3. Click the transformation symbol at the end in the section to open the Select repository object dialog box.
    4. Go to the Transformations folder, or where the transformation is saved, and select the transformation to run within this job, for example M3_Calendars.
    5. Click OK to select the file and close the Select repository object dialog box.
    6. Click OK to close the Job entry details dialog box for this transformation step.
      The name of the transformation step is now the name of the transformation added to the job (M3_Calendars).
  5. Double-click or drag the Success step to the Job tab on the right-hand pane next to the Transformation step. (M3_Calendars).
    1. Link the Transformation (M3_Calendars) step to the Success step.
    2. Hover over the Transformation (M3_Calendars) step.
    3. Click the output connector icon and drag the connection arrow to the Success step.
  6. Click Save to save the new job in the Jobs folder created earlier during installation and setup.
    1. Specify the Job Name, Description, Status (if used), Version (if used).
    2. Click the Directory icon at the end of the field and select Jobs check box as the Directory folder.
  7. Click OK to close the Directory Selection dialog box.
  8. Click OK to save the transformation and close the Transformation Properties dialog box.
