Stand-alone installations

During installation, the process runs as a local administrator (who may or may not be a domain user). As part of the configuration, the administrator performing the installation enters the names of a service user and (for Linux systems) a service group. The user and group are assumed to exist before the installation begins.

Note: If the administrator performing the installation is logged on as a domain administrator, the full access rights are assigned to the local administrator account. To remedy this, add the domain administrator to the grid full access group.

Prerequisites

The service user is assumed to exist before installation begins. The prerequisites for this user are described in the following sections, depending on the installation platform.

For both types of system, the service user should be used only for running the grid bootstrap service. It should not be used for non-grid-related tasks.

Windows systems

When the grid is used for running ION, the service user is a local administrator (possibly a domain user).

Linux systems

  • The service user is not a local administrator.

  • The service group contains the service user only.

  • The service user and group must have permissions to traverse the parent folders of the folder where the grid is installed.
