Runtime behavior

Understand how Infor GenAI invokes MCP tools and processes responses during agent execution.

When a user interacts with an agent, this sequence occurs:

  1. User sends a message, for example, What’s the status of order 12345?.
  2. Agent determines which MCP tool to call based on the user message and the available tool descriptions.
  3. Infor GenAI sends the tool call to API Gateway.
  4. API Gateway routes the request to the target MCP Server.
  5. If user-level authorization is required and no token exists, the OAuth flow described in Authorization and security model runs. Infor GenAI prompts the user to authorize the request and then retries the tool call by using the obtained access token.
  6. The target MCP Server processes the request and returns the response data.
  7. Agent incorporates the response into the reply to the user.

If user-level OAuth authorization is required, Infor GenAI displays an authorization prompt. After the user grants consent, the agent automatically retries the MCP tool request by using the obtained access token.
