Verifying a download

You can verify whether your downloads are secure and reliable. With each download, methods to verify a downloaded file's integrity are provided.

Download verification provides these benefits:

  • Ensuring file integrity.

Checksums and GPS signatures confirm that the downloaded file matches the source and the file has not been modified or corrupted during the download process. Thus, you receive the file that you intended to download.

  • Detecting unauthorized modifications.

Checksums and GPS signatures identify unauthorized modifications to the file. If any unauthorized modification occurs, the checksum or GPS signature changes. Thus, you are alerted about potential security threats.

  • Authenticating the source.

GPS signatures link the file to the source. Consequently, the integrity of the file and the authenticity of the source are verified. Thus, you can be confident that the file is from a legitimate and trusted source.
