Overview

External Entity Management is a function that resides within Infor OS Portal or Infor Ming.le as part of the Infor OS portal. Infor OS Portal or Infor Ming.le is an application framework that provides a common user interface for integrated Infor ERP applications.

Infor OS Portal or Infor Ming.le provides a centralized platform for employee collaboration where information is shared, and conversations are organized across Infor OS Portal or Infor Ming.le.

Infor OS Portal or Infor Ming.le provides drill-back capability among Infor applications so that users can navigate from one application to another to track transactions, the transfer of data, and report updates. Additionally, Infor OS Portal or Infor Ming.le provides an infrastructure for sharing content among the different context applications.

External Entity Management is an extension of Infor OS IFS/User Management. User Management provides the capability for Infor applications to manage users. The users for the Infor applications are first created within User Management. The user information is then replicated across the different Infor applications.

External Entity Management provides Infor OS the concept of external users. External users are colleagues outside the business organization who need to access confidential information.

External Entity Management provides Infor customers the capability to manage external users outside their internal user directory and to restrict the permissions and access that external users have inside Infor applications. This allows external users to have permissions and access into Infor applications that have restrictions and controls that are different from those for internal employees in a tenant company.

Note: External Entity Management is relevant only for Infor CloudSuite applications that have completed adopting the external entities functionality. Each Infor application team is responsible for providing its own External Entities user guide. If the Infor application user guide does not include the External Entity Management feature, this Infor OS Administration Guide for External Entities is not relevant for your adoption.

There are two levels in the external entity system:

  • Tenant: The company that purchased and licensed software from Infor.
  • External Entity: An external entity that the tenant uses to limit access and permissions into the tenant's Infor applications.

There are different user types within these two system levels:

  • Tenant administrator: An administrator in the tenant company can manage the external entity and external entity users.
  • Tenant user: An enterprise user and an employee of the tenant.
  • External Entity administrator: An administrator in the external entity company who is permitted to manage external entity users for their specific external entity.
  • External Entity user: A user registered under the external entity. A non-enterprise user.

External Entity administrators are differentiated from tenant administrators in that they do not have complete access to tenant functionality within Infor OS. External Entity administrators have privileges and permissions that affect only those users assigned to their entity.

This guide provides instructions to External Entity administrators on managing users in their external entity.
