Creating structure exception records

Structure exceptions are used to define finance structure code block records that are invalid or valid only for a specific date range. Before structure exceptions can be defined, the finance enterprise group must be enabled to use structure exceptions. Use this procedure to enable structure exceptions in the finance enterprise group and then to create the structure exceptions.

  1. Select Application Administration > Financials > Global Ledger > Setup.
  2. On the Maintenance panel, click Finance Enterprise Groups.
  3. Open a finance enterprise group and click the Options tab.
  4. Select the Structure Exceptions check box.
  5. Click Save.

    The Structure Exception tab is available and you can proceed with creating the structure exception.

  6. On the Structure Exception tab, click Create.
  7. Specify this information:
    Structure Exception Description
    Provide a description.
    Ledger
    Specify an account string for the structure exception.
    Active
    Select this check box so that the structure exception is active. When the structure exception is active, a date range is used to indicate the dates that the finance structure code block is valid. When the record is active and the date range fields are blank, the defined finance structure code block is always valid.

    If this check box is cleared, the structure exception record is inactive and the defined finance structure code block is invalid. The code block cannot be used in transactions.

    Begin Date
    Specify the beginning date and ending dates for the structure exception record.
    Allow Any Value to Blank
    When this check box is selected, the dimensions that are specified in the structure exceptions are validated when transactions are created. All blank dimensions are treated as null even if they contain values in the transactional dimensions. Validation is restricted to only the specified dimensions. All unspecified dimensions are treated as null when transactions are created, even if values are specified.

    If this check box is cleared, then structure exceptions are used to validate only the dimensions that are an exact match, comparing them against transactional dimensions. If the structure exception is inactive, and transactional dimension values match the dimensions in the structure exception combination, then when you attempt to save the record, an error message is displayed. The error message indicates that the GL finance structure is inactive.

    Finance Structure
    Specify the finance structure code block values for the structure exception record.
  8. Click Save.
