Production order demand

Demand is the number of specific finished goods that are anticipated for a specific period. The production schedule is driven by the Production Management demand.

This table shows the types of demand:

Demand type Description
Document demand Manually create customer orders and requisitions for finished good items without enough available product to satisfy demand.

To create orders and requisitions:

  • Manually create orders and requisitions in the Item and Order Billing and the Requisitions applications.
  • Import orders and requisitions using batch programs.

Work orders with components that are finished goods can be created in Production Management. If back orders are created because the on-hand quantity does not fulfill this demand, see the Production Schedule for details.

Replenishment demand Run a batch program to replenish the finished goods.

If the available quantity of a finished good is less than the reorder point, then you can create replenishment demand for the reorder quantity.

Forecast demand Import from an external source or manually create forecast demand.

Importing demand from a forecasting system ensures that expected demand is satisfied. Forecast demand can be imported from a non-Infor forecasting system. The demand is imported to Production Management in a comma-separated value (CSV) file by running a batch program.

Example

The majority of the demand for the Snow and Sod company, a manufacturer of snow blowers and lawn mowers, is created by customer orders from their three regional offices. Snow and Sod also provides lawn mowers for the Grounds Maintenance department at their three locations. The requisitions for these lawn mowers contribute to the demand. Document demand can also come from other work orders when the finished good is used as a component.

Periodically, Snow and Sod's production department must verify if a finished good is below their reorder point and must be replenished. The department staff can calculate the available quantities using these variables:

  • The current stock on hand
  • Minus the allocated, picked, and back ordered quantities
  • Plus the on-order and intratransit quantities

Every six months, Snow and Sod forecasts their demand based on sales from the last three years. This forecast demand is imported into the Production Management application.
