Managing rules

Use this procedure to create recommendations engine rules. You can create, view, and edit, rules for specific locations.
Note: Some fields only apply to specific rules.
  1. Select Rules.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Specify this information for the rule types to create:
    Active
You can make a rule inactive. This can be useful for testing rules.
    All Sources
Select this option to apply the rule regardless of the source origin.
    Non-Inventory Source
Select this option to apply the rule to all items from a non-inventory source, such as a vendor. If you select this option, the Vendor Group and Vendor fields are available.
    Inventory Source
Select this option if the rule applies to all inventory items. When you select this option, the Source Company and Source Location fields are available.
    Item
Select this check box if the rule applies only to a specific item. When you select this option, the Item Group and Item fields are available.
    Major Inventory Class
Select this check box if the rule applies for items with major inventory class. When you select this option, the Item Group and Major Inventory Class fields are available. If you leave both these fields empty, the rule is applied to the items that have the major inventory class filled in.
  4. On the Service Level tab, specify this information:
    Service Level Parameters
Specify the service level in the form of a percentage. This benchmark is used for simulations.
  5. On the Lead Time tab, specify this information:
    Default Lead Time
Specify the default lead time in days. If there is insufficient lead time history, then this value is used for recommendations. You can specify a lead time for either Vendor source or Location source.

This default lead time value is used in place of the global configuration default lead time parameter for items to which this rule applies. See Cleansing data.

  6. On the Order Days tab, specify this information:
    Order Days Schedule
Select the days of the week for orders and the frequency. For example, you can specify that orders occur on the selected days every 1 week.
  7. On the Receiving Days tab, specify this information:
    Receiving Days Schedule
Select Monday Thru Friday or Everyday.
  8. On the Lower And Upper Bounds tab, specify this information:
    Lower And Upper Bounds
Specify minimum and maximum values for the Reorder Point and Par Level fields and specify whether to use units or days.

After recommendations are run, items that are out of bounds are displayed on the Out of Bounds tab on the Perpetual Items and Par Items pages.

  9. On the Exclusions tab, specify this information:
    Exclusion Parameters
You can exclude item recommendations based on these conditions:
    • Company
    • Location
    • Item
  10. On the Perpetual Order Policy tab, specify this information:
    Max Order Inventory Policy
This field is used to address circumstances when the engine recommends a change in order minimum, or at what minimum on-hand value to place a new order. This field defines what to recommend as the maximum order value. Specify one of these values:
    • Current Gap: Select this option to maintain the existing gap between order minimum and order maximum. For example, if the minimum is decreased by 10 units, the maximum is also decreased by 10 units.
    • Order Frequency: The maximum is calculated based on usage for a specified frequency. For example, if you specify 3 as your order frequency, the maximum order value is calculated based on three days of usage.
  11. On the Par Target Days tab, specify this information:
    Low Threshold
Specify a minimum value to ensure that the engine recommendations for daily, semi-weekly, and weekly target days of supply remain within desired values.
    High Threshold
Specify a maximum value to ensure that the engine recommendations for daily, semi-weekly, and weekly target days of supply remain within desired values.
  12. Click Save.
