Assessing charges
Use this procedure to assess finance and late
payment charges for customers with finance charge options.
- Select Finance Charge Late Payment.
-
Specify this information:
- Company
- Select a company number.
- As of Date
- Select a date to define open items as of a specified date. This date is used to determine whether an item is past due and the number of days past due. If this field is blank, then the current period end date is used. This date is used as the Global Ledger date for finance charges.
- Qualify Future Applications
- If the As of
Date is the current date and no future dated cash
applications exist, then select No. This reduces processing time.
Select Yes if you do have future dated applications and the As of Date date is not today.
If you assess finance charges using the Late Payment method, then this field must be Yes.
- Update Option
- If you select Update and Report, then customer balances are updated with the total assessment and two summary distributions are created to debit accounts receivable. The finance charge account is credited and a work record is created for printing notices.
- Default Process Level
- If you select Update and
Report in Report Option, then select a
process level. If a finance charge is processed on a customer's
transactions, then this field is used as the process level for debit
memo. Note: The Process Level and Finance GL Code fields are not selection parameters. These two fields determine how Global Ledger entries for the finance charge debit memos are posted.
- Select Process Level
- If you select a value in this field, then the Default Process Level field must be blank. Only debit memos and invoices that match the selected process level are included.
- Payment/Credit Option
- Select a payment or credit option. This option determines how payments and credits are handled. This field is used only in conjunction with the Select Process Level field.
- Finance GL Code
- If a Process Level is selected, then select the code to use for debit memos that are generated for transactions and span multiple process levels. If this field blank, then the finance GL code that is assigned to the process level on the parameters is used.
- Cycle Codes
- Select up to ten finance charge cycle codes.
- Locale
- Specify the account information.
- Payment Notice Text Code
- Select a text code. The late payment text that is associated with the text code is printed on the late payment notice in the customer's preferred language.
- Include Finance Debit Memos
- Select Yes to include finance charge debit memos.
- Due Date
- Select a due date that is greater than the current date. If due date blank, then the As Of Date is used.
- Suppress Zero Lines
- Select this check box to suppress the zero lines.
-
In the Report Distribution section, select a distribution list
and export type for these reports:
- Finance Charge Late Payment Report
- Finance Charge Late Payment Net Method Report
- Finance Charge Late Payment Error Report
- Click Submit.
- To process charge-backs and update balances, select Application Close.
- To transfer the finance charges and late payments to Global Ledger, select Distribution Close.
