Purchase order structure

The structure of a purchase order:

Header

The information in the header contains data about the entire purchase order document.

The header contains company, buyer, vendor, ship to location, and delivery date. After the header is created, each line is assigned to the header.

Line

A purchase order line contains order information about a specific item.

Each line contains the item number, quantity, unit of measure, and unit cost. The delivery date and ship to location can be edited in the line. Each purchase order line is meant to contain the details about the item. The detail typically includes line-specific cost information, such as tax and other add-on costs.

After the purchase order is created, other header and line options can be added, such as add-on cost spread.

Comments

One or more comment types can be used to create a single comment on the purchase order header or line.
