Preparing to run interface processes

Use these steps in preparation for running the interface:

  1. Determine whether to run the interface in your test or production environment.
Before you run the interface in a production environment, be sure to run it in a test environment until you have no errors in your test sample. If you have errors in your test sample, be sure to check similar data in your current database for this type of error before you interface that data.
    Note:

Not all interfaces processes offer these run options.

  2. Select the run options within the interface process.

Update or non-update mode: Select update mode to convert your data to the Infor database. Select non-update mode to generate an interface error report and not update the Infor database. For information about this option, see Running an interface in Update and Non-Update mode.

Specify maximum error count (if including records with errors): You can specify a maximum error count that is acceptable for the run. When the maximum error count is reached, the conversion process stops. If you do not specify a maximum error count, the default is 999,999. You can use this option to limit the amount of processing time if an error begins to repeat in every record.

  3. Back up data.

You must back up your data before you run the interface process. You may need backup data if you encounter errors or if you must repeat an interface step. Backup data is also important because it provides an audit trail before, during, or after the interface.

  4. Remove unwanted test data.

You may want to remove unwanted test data when you run multiple interface tests. You may also want to remove unwanted test data if most of your database contains errors and you must start your interface over. After you remove unwanted test data, replace it with the data on the backup that you made before you ran the interface.
