Structure relations setup
Structure relations setup is optional for non-system generated relations. Use them to create relations between elements of the finance enterprise group finance structure and to define validation rules for each relation.
Automatically-created relationships
These relations are automatically created depending on the finance structure:
- If accounting units are used, then an accounting entity to accounting unit relation is created. The valid pairs are automatically created as you create the accounting unit structure for an accounting entity. One valid pair is added for each posting accounting unit that is added to the hierarchy structure. You cannot change these pairs on the Structure Relation page. When creating transaction lines, only accounting units that are valid for the accounting entity are allowed.
- When you create a reporting basis, a ledger to accounting entity relation is created. The valid pairs are automatically created as you add ledgers and accounting entities to the reporting basis. One valid pair is created for each ledger and accounting entity in the reporting basis. You cannot change these pairs on the Structure Relation page. You can add transactions only for ledger and accounting entities that are connected through a reporting basis.
Valid relationships
You can create these relations, depending on your finance structure:
- From ledger to account
- From ledger to accounting unit, if selected
- From account to project, if selected
- From ledger to any user dimension that is selected
User-defined relations
You can create user-defined relations from any dimension to another if it follows the order of your finance structure. For example, if Account is placed after Finance Dimension 1 in your finance structure, then you cannot create relations from Account to Finance Dimension 1. You can create relations from Finance Dimension 1 to Account if Finance Dimension 1 precedes Account in your finance structure setup.
After the relations are created, you must specify all of the valid value pairs for the relations that you created. When setting up finance structure rules for dimensions that are not required, a blank rule must be defined. Relations between two blank rules are not generated by the rules builder and must be manually added on the Detail tab. Transactions are validated against the valid value pairs that are specified for the relation.
For example, you create a structure relation between accounting entity and dimension Location. You do not specify a valid relation between accounting entity 1000 and Location USA. Any transaction for entity 1000 and location USA is rejected.
Methods to create valid pairs
This list shows the methods that you can use to create valid value pairs:
- You can create individual detail pairs.
- You can create rules that generate valid value pairs based on summary values in the hierarchy.
- You can create rules that generate valid value pairs based on user-created group values.
