Creating dimension hierarchies

  1. Select Financials > Global Ledger > Setup > Finance Enterprise Group > Maintenance.
  2. Open the finance enterprise group and click the tab for the dimension that you defined.
  3. Open the structure for which to create a hierarchy.
  4. Click the Hierarchy tab.
  5. Click Create.
  6. Specify this information:
    Dimension Type
Select the dimension type. If you select Posting, then you cannot create a child dimension for this dimension.
    Dimension
Specify a name of the top level in your dimension hierarchy.

When you create a summary dimension, the structure number and an underscore prefix is appended to the name so that it can be used in multiple structures. For example, if you use NW REGION as the summary dimension, it is saved as 1_NW REGION in the first structure

This reduces the number of characters for the summary name. If a summary name fills the entire available field size, the characters at the end of the summary name value are removed.

    Description
Specify a description for the dimension, for example, Northwest Region.
    Effective Date
Optionally, specify the date on which the structure takes effect. If this field is blank, then the current date is used.
    Product Tax Category
This field is available for project invoicing when the dimension is 3 or 4 for the account category and the dimension type is Posting. For Vertex tax, select the product tax category. To set up product tax categories, see the Tax User Guide.
    Partial Revenue Finance Structure
Optionally, select a value. This field is available for project invoicing if the dimension is 3 or 4 for the account category and the dimension type is Posting. When this field is used, you can post revenue to a different finance code block for each expense account category. When this field is used, these are the default methods for new revenue transactions:
    • The finance code block from the invoiced transaction is used.
    • If the Project Billing Override record exists and a partial revenue finance structure is included, the specified dimensions are used as the default and the default method ends.
    • If the posting project record contains a partial revenue structure, the specified dimensions are used as a default and the default method ends.
    • If an account category record for FD3 or FD4 exists that includes a partial revenue finance structure, then those dimensions are used as the default. Dimensions that are not specified on the FD3 and FD4 account category records are determined by the dimensions of the project funding source.
