Exploded work orders
When the work order status is changed to exploded, the work order is broken into its component parts. Work orders must be in Released or Unreleased status to be exploded.
Unexploded work orders
These changes can be made to unexploded work orders:
- Delete the work order
- Change the quantity of finished goods
- Change the work order date
- Add, delete, or change assembly instructions
Exploded work orders
These changes can be made to exploded work orders:
- Select a substitute component item
- Change the component quantity and packaging
- Choose another location from which to find a component
- Add or delete components
- Add, delete, or change comments and burdens
- Add, delete, or change byproducts
When a work order is exploded, these things are added to it:
- Components, extended quantities, and burdens
- Byproducts and notes that are attached to components, burdens, and byproducts
Component inventory is allocated when the work order is exploded. The costs that are associated with that work order are calculated.
Work orders can be exploded in these ways:
- Creating exploded work orders during production scheduling
- Manually exploding work orders
- Exploding several work orders by running a batch program
Using a batch program, several work orders can be exploded at once. Work orders can be exploded based on a range of work order numbers or production start dates. Work orders must be in Released status before you can run the batch program to explode them.
Exploding work order
This table shows how components are added to a work order during explosion. For example, if you create a work order to produce 50 red bicycles, the components are added to the work order in the quantities shown.
Bicycle component | Finished good component | Exploded work order |
---|---|---|
Frame and fork assembly (red) | 1 each | 50 each |
Handlebar | 1 each | 50 each |
Spoke wheel, front | 1 each | 50 each |
Geared spoke wheel, rear | 1 each | 50 each |
Racing tire | 2 each | 100 each |
Wheel reflector | 4 each | 200 each |
Gel seat | 1 each | 50 each |
Link chain | 1 each | 50 each |
Pedal crank with bearings | 1 each | 50 each |
Metal pedal | 2 each | 100 each |
