TrueCost configuration overview

This table provides an overview of the components of a TrueCost configuration.

Component Description Reference Comments
TrueCost Configuration A TrueCost configuration is associated with a finance enterprise group, which determines the structure of the configuration, including the department dimension and cost object dimension, the cost breakdown structure, and TrueCost ledgers. Creating a configuration Required.
Drivers TrueCost drivers are based on the count, volumes, and durations of patient-level activities that are derived from clinical and operational systems. Creating drivers Required.
Driver Event Driver event is used to specify the value of a driver for each cost object during a patient-related event.

Departmental logs or patient activity logs from the Electronic Health Record System (EHR) can be loaded as driver events.

Creating driver events Required if Driver is created and driver type selected is by event date
Driver Data Driver data is used to specify the value of a driver for each cost object based on the date on which it is effective. Creating driver data Required if Driver is created and driver type selected is by effective date.
Driver Weight A driver weight is used to allocate expenses for cost objects based on a measure of resource intensity. Creating driver weights Optional.
Driver Weight Data This is the value of a driver weight used for a cost object. For example, if the driver weight is RVU, the weight data specifies the RVU values for each cost object. Creating driver weight data Required if Driver Weight is created.
Practical Capacity Practical capacity is used in capacity allocations to calculate a portion of the balance as the unutilized capacity of a finance dimension. Creating practical capacity Required if creating capacity allocations.
Unutilized capacity <volume dimension> To calculate capacity allocations, you must associate a posting volume dimension to the summary volume dimension to which it applies. When an allocation rule is calculated for the summary volume dimension, the unused capacity is calculated and allocated to the associated posting volume dimension in the capacity ledger. Creating unutilized capacity (volume dimension) Required if Practical Capacity is created.
Practical Capacity Volume To calculate capacity allocations, you must specify the practical capacity volume effective for the unutilized capacity summary volume dimension for the period of the allocation run. Creating practical capacity volume Required if Practical Capacity is created.
Cost Behavior Cost behavior is the sensitivity of costs to changes in service volume. Creating cost behaviors Optional.
