Updating capacity volumes

After allocation calculations run successfully, use this procedure to update the capacity volume for any summary volume dimension where the actual volume exceeded the capacity volume. This procedure either updates an existing capacity volume record or creates a new capacity volume record with a different effective date. The updated or new capacity volume record uses the actual volume from the run as the new capacity volume value, unless you specify another value.

  1. Select TrueCost Allocation Controls and open an allocation control.
  2. On the Runs tab, select an allocation run with a status of Completed, and then click Open.
  3. Select the Capacity Volumes tab. Any summary volume dimension where the actual volume for the run exceeded the practical capacity value is listed.
  4. Review the information and for each summary volume dimension for which you want to update the practical capacity, specify this information:
    Volume Override
The default value for this field is the actual volume value, which exceeded the existing capacity volume value. Keep this default or specify another value to use for the new practical capacity volume.
    Effective Date
Specify the date on which the practical capacity volume value becomes effective. This capacity volume value is used for capacity allocations until another effective date is defined for the same combination of settings. Allocation runs with an allocation post date that is within the effective date range use this capacity volume value for capacity calculations. The default value is the start date of the next valid period that does not have an existing record.

For example, you can specify a capacity volume value with an effective date of January 1st and another capacity volume value with an effective date of February 1st. Allocation runs with an allocation post date in January use the first capacity volume value to calculate capacity allocations. Allocation runs with an allocation post date on February 1st or later use the second capacity volume value to calculate capacity allocations.

    Update
Select Yes to update capacity volume for this summary volume dimension. If this value is No, the capacity volume is not updated.
  5. Click Action > Update.
When the allocation run is finalized, if there is an existing practical capacity volume record with the specified effective date, it is updated with the value from the Volume Override field. If there is not an existing practical capacity volume record with the specified effective date, a new record is created.
Note: If you perform the unfinalize action, the updated practical capacity volume is not reverted and can still be used for subsequent allocation runs that fall within the effective date range.

You can view all practical capacity volume records from the TrueCost Configurations > Practical Capacity > Practical Capacity Volumes tab. See Creating practical capacity volume.

You can view practical capacity volume records for a specific configuration combination of an allocation line on the Capacity tab. See Managing practical capacity volume from an allocation line.
