Creating UPC codes

Universal Product Codes (UPC) are an alternate product identifier for items. UPCs are used primarily in the retail industry. In Inventory Control you can associate a UPC code with an inventory item for tracking purposes. The UPC code includes additional item information, such as UPC type and unit of measure.

You can print UPC codes on labels or you can scan them electronically.

  1. Select Item Setup > Manage Items > Item List.
  2. Open an item record.
  3. Click the Codes tab.
  4. In the UPCs section, click Create.
  5. Specify this information:
    UPC
    Specify the universal product code.
    Unit of Measure
    Select the valid stock unit of measure for this item.
    Unit Cost
    Specify the valid stock unit of measure cost for this item.
    UPC Type
    Select Primary for the universal product code type.
    Suppress Leading Zero
    Specify if the leading zero on the UPC must be suppressed.
    Sale by Distributor
    Select this check box if the sale is performed by the distributor.
    Sale by Manufacturer
    Select this check box if the sale is performed by the manufacturer.
    Use Sale UOM
    Select this check box if you are using the sale unit of measure.
  6. Click Save.
