Looking up tax area IDs for an address

Use this procedure to find a tax area ID for a specified address. This is not the address of the tax entity. Alternatively, you can use Vertex Central to lookup a tax area ID for an address.

By specifying address parameters,you can search for and find the tax area ID for any tax location. For example, state/Canada, county/province, city, or ZIP/postal code,

  1. Select Financials > Payables or Receivables > Setup > Tax Setup > Tax Entities.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Specify the tax entity number and description.
  4. Select the Tax Area ID Lookup tab. This tab is available if you have selected Vertex in the Third Party field. Specify the address parameters for your TaxEntity ID search.
  5. Specify this information:
    Country
    Select a country. The country must have valid ISO values.
    State or Canada
    Specify the two-letter abbreviation for the state for which you are searching or specify CN for Canada.
    County or Province
    Specify the name of the county or province.
    Postal Code
    Specify the postal code.
  6. To view tax area ID for existing customers, select the form that contains the address for that location.
    Accounts Receivable Customer
    Specify a Receivables customer.

    You can specify one of these: Receivables customer, Payables vendor, or Inventory Control location.

    Billing Ship To
    Specify a ship-to code for the customer.

    You can specify either a Billing ship-to code or a Project Invoicing and Revenue service location, but not both.

    Vendor Location
    Select a vendor location.
    Inventory Control Location
    Select an inventory location.
    Billing Process Level
    Select a process level.
  7. Click Save. One of these actions occurs:
    • The Tax Area ID for the parameters that you specified is displayed in the Tax Area ID field.
    • Multiple Tax Area IDs are displayed on the Mult Tax Area ID tab.
    • An error message is displayed.
