Processing allocations overview

This table contains the flow of processing allocations.

Process Description Reference Comments
Run Allocations

Run an allocation to calculate expenses and perform full allocation of expenses based on defined drivers and driver weights.

For capacity-based allocations, TrueCost allocates only the portion of the expense item that was utilized based on defined practical capacity.

Calculating allocations Required.
Reconcile Allocations After calculating TrueCost in an allocation run, use this procedure to view reconciliation data. Reconciling allocations Required.
Generate Unit Cost TrueCost calculates the unit costs of each cost object in an allocation run by the specified driver events for the unit cost calculation. Generating unit costs Required if the allocation run will be finalized.
Generate Cost Behavior After an allocation run, you can generate and view a cost behavior summary. This summary provides a total cost for each cost behavior for the transactions in the allocation run. Generating cost behavior summary Optional.
Update Capacity Volume You update the capacity volume for any summary volume dimension where the actual volume exceeded the capacity volume. Updating capacity volumes Optional.
Finalize an allocation calculation After allocation runs have been successfully reconciled and unit costs have been generated, they must be finalized to make the information available in Birst analytics. Finalizing allocations Required if the allocation run needs to be available for BIRST reporting.
Publish allocations for reporting

A finalized allocation run can be published for Birst to determine which allocation runs to include in Birst reports and dashboards.

Only one actuals run and one capacity run for an allocation control per period can be published for Birst reporting.

Publishing allocations for reporting Optional.
