Drivers

Creating a driver in the Drivers tab of a TrueCost configuration includes specifying the driver name, description and driver type. When driver data is uploaded viaInfor Spreadsheet Designer or created manually, the driver values are associated with the driver name and description for use in TrueCost allocations.

For example, a driver name of Procedure Count with a description of number of procedures is created. Driver data is imported that specifies the number of each procedure performed on the event date or on its effectivity date. In this scenario, procedure is the cost object.

Drivers for Unit Cost

When creating drivers, you can specify which dimensions will be used so that you can define the level at which the unit cost is calculated. A Cost Object dimension is required.

For example:
  • Unit costing at department level
    • Department / Cost Object / Event Date / Value
  • Unit costing at location level
    • Location / Cost Object / Event Date / Value
  • Unit costing at location and department level
    • Location / Department / Cost Object / Value

Before you can generate unit costs, driver events data must be imported for the cost objects in an allocation run.

When generating unit cost, you specify which driver you want to use. You can generate unit costs multiple times using the same or different drivers. If you use the same driver on subsequent unit cost generations, the new results will overwrite the previous results. Using a different driver on subsequent unit cost generations creates a new set of cost records.
