Journal entry types

Each journal entry is assigned a type. Journal entry types are assigned by the user or by the system. This table shows the types of journal entries:

Journal entry type Defined by Description Note
Normal User or system Use for entries where all transaction lines are within one accounting entity. n/a
Inter Entity User or system This type involves more than one accounting entity. For example, a transaction that results in the transfer of equipment from one company to another requires this type of journal entry. Additional setup is required. See Inter Entity journal entry prerequisites.
Auto Reverse Normal System If Auto Reverse is used on a normal journal entry, then auto reversing journal entries are created during the posting process.

Journal entries are created only for transactions that are flagged to auto reverse.

If you do not provide a date, then the first day of the next period is used. For example, you can auto reverse accrued travel expense entries.
Auto Reverse Inter Entity System If Auto Reverse is set on an inter entity journal entry, then auto reversing journal entries are created during the posting process. Journal entries are created only for transactions that are flagged for auto reverse. If you do not provide a date, then the first day of the next period is used as its posting and transaction date.
